Being Encouraged by Those Before Us

Sometimes I get so caught up in the daily life of being a wife, mother, and nanny that I forget to feed my spirit and when I get time I usually waste it doing "needs" around the house or I just want to sleep. So in acknowledging that a healthy spirit is more important then a sparkling house- which mine is far from- I will be trying to spend my spare time in the word and reading edifying books. A book that I am going to start (and hopefully finish soon) is Faithful Women and Their Extraordinary God by Noel Piper.

Here is a description of the book from the Desiring God website:

"Modern Christian women need an introduction to the intelligent, capable, godly women of the past. In this new book, Noel Piper uses excerpts from letters and journals to add rich detail to the amazing stories of five ordinary women who trusted in their extraordinary God as he led them to do great things for his kingdom.

The faith and exploits of Sarah Edwards, Lilias Trotter, Gladys Aylward, Esther Ahn Kim, and Helen Roseveare will encourage and challenge you to make a difference for Christ in your family, in the church, and throughout the world."

You can read the PDF version of the book here.

"Remember your leaders, those who spoke to you the word of God.

Consider the outcome of their way of life, and imitate their faith.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever."
